To ensure the safety, security and well being of the children in our care,
Childrens Academy has procedures and standards in place to cover
pick-up and drop-off, visitors, equipment and furniture safety, and more.
These procedures are periodically reviewed and updated to make certain
they reflect the most current safety and security technology and practices.
Computer Software is used by Childrens Academy to make every effort to
keep the children safe and to have records and information easily
accessable in the case of an emergency.
Keeping Children Safe
Childrens Academy has a coded entrance to the building. Upon enrollment
each family is given a code that will allow them to enter the main door.
Anyone without a code must ring a buzzer to gain entrance to the building.
The lobby is securely separated from the actual classrooms. Once inside
the building, each child must be checked in and out on our electronic keypad
every day. We enforce our policy by assigning PIN numbers to parents and
others who are authorized to pick up the child. Children must also be signed
in manually in the notebooks provided on the front counter. Your Academy
Director keeps an updated file of names, addresses and phone numbers of
people authorized to pick up children in case of an emergency. No child is
released to an adult without proper authorization. EVER!
Visitors
All visitors to our Academy are greeted in our secure lobby, directed to sign
the Visitor Log and state the purpose of their visit. Picture identification is
required from all unfamiliar visitors. A visitor listed as an authorized person
to pick up a child must show picture identification if the Director and/or
assistant do not know him/her. Childrens Academy makes every effort to
have an employee sitting at the front desk or in the office at all times, but if
not possible the electronic safety systems in place keeps the Academy safe
and secure.
Employees and Volunteers
All employees and volunteers must complete a Federal Criminal Background
Check. A class one fingerprint clearance card must be obtained before any
adult can work with the children in our care.
Fire Drills
Fire drills are conducted once a month using the actual fire alarm bell.
The Academy is connected to the local fire department so in the event of a fire,
the fire department is notified immediately. These drills are done at different
times of the day and are timed so that children and staff will be aware of
different situations such as nap and lunch time. Records of these drills are
kept on file at the Academy and can be viewed upon requests.
Medical Standards
Each adult working at Childrens Academy must provide evidence of good
health with a signed physical examination, an annual negative tuberculosis
test, and other state-mandated requirements. All medical records are
periodically updated. Staff members do not work if they are ill. All employees
are CPR and First Aid Certified. Teachers are trained to wash their hands as
often as possible to prevent the spreading of germs. Teachers never use the
same tissue to wipe the nose of more than one child.
As for the children, we maintain a complete written record for each child in
our care. Pertinent health histories (such as allergies, chronic conditions or susceptibilities) are also required. All health records, immunization records
and emergency contacts are kept up to date and easily accessible in case of emergency. All children must have proper immunizations before enrollment,
(unless for religious beliefs) and must complete updates within 7 days of the assigned due date.
